No business can survive in today’s world without marketing itself, and home based businesses are no exception. Marketing is the do-or-die ideal in the business society, without which any business flounders like a fish out of water. Home based businesses must market themselves so that they can fill the end of the market they were created for.
There are many different ways through which a home based company can market itself. Obviously, most home based businesspeople prefer to go formarketing tactics that can reach a larger amount of people at lower costs. This is because most of these businesses are run on a shoe-string, especially for the few months following the business start-up.
The varied media that can be used for marketing a regional home based business include the classifieds in the local paper, short run-through ads on radio, fliers on public notice-boards, the internet and so on and so forth. For a mail order business, clients from afar are preferred. Many businesses that aren’t regional tend to have a greater difficulty in obtaining clients. And, as everyone knows, the best way to reach a large number of people simultaneously is obviously the internet.
So how can you sell yourself (if you’re providing a service) or your products via the internet? Simple. Build a website on your business. Make it really attractive. Mention the niche you’re in, and how you’re in it to help people get what they need. Basically, make sure it has great, original copy that people are willing to read. Showcase your business. And then, join up with sites where they advertise for you and you make the money.
There are plenty of sites such as Google Adwords that are prepared to run your ads on other sites registered with them, and most require payment only if people click on the ads. You do pay, yes. But at the same time, you reach your target audience: people who visit your site, and perhaps even buy what’s on offer. Great, right?
Apart from this, you can also log in to use marketing forums, social networking sites such as Facebook, blogs and the like to publicize your website. All in all, the internet is one major tool that should never be ignored in your bid to make your home based business run more smoothly than ever.

One of the most frequent questions I get from people who want to start their own consulting business is: "What is the role of a freelance consultant?" In other words "How do I let the client know I'm the right person for their project?" This can be a tricky question. You can go into many directions on this one. However, it's very simple….
The role of the consultant is to satisfy any short term need a business has. Once that need is satisfied then you're done.
So what does that mean to you when looking for freelancing work? When you get down to basics of finding freelancing work, you need to be surgical in your pitch to the prospect when you define the role you'll fill when they hire you for the project. Let's look at an example together:
Let's say you saw a project for writing services for "20 Articles Needed on Deep Fried Cooking" with the following requirements:
To prove motivation to the prospective client, you need to show your desire for cooking and your experience in writing articles related to cooking. You also do not want to emphasize your other specialties at this point, unless it's related to cooking. Remember, relevant experience is the key here.
Do you want to mention that you wrote two novels on completely unrelated subjects? Perhaps. However, does it fill the role needed to complete the project? Not really. While it's great that you did, you may not want to mention that at the top of your sales pitch because the prospective client is only looking at what's important to them.
Now, let's touch on the last three requirements. You can show your abilities for these requirements very easily by providing an article on cooking. The article sample should also be the same word count as the requirements. A writing sample like that will show them that you can provide exactly what he needs and will show your aptitude for cooking.
The main thing you should get out of this example is you need to focus like a laser beam on the client requirements. If you can't them that your services are best for their project, then it's not a fit for them or you.
Remember, there is no one size fits all solution on how to find freelance work. However, showing interest to a prospective clients needs, shows them you can take on the role to complete the project effectively.

If you've been trying to determine how to make money using the Internet, try looking over one or more of the freelance work sites in order to bid on the projects listed under service buyer’s pages. There are dozens of categories to choose from so you can bid based on the area of your expertise. There are many writing jobs in various categories that you can select from. These jobs can be short term where you complete two or three items and then go on to the next project, or they can be almost full time projects that go on indefinitely.
Data Entry
A good example of freelance work you can do on the Internet is to do data entry for businesses on the Internet. If you want to learn how to make money from data entry, you should check with freelancer sites for projects asking for data entry personnel. Data entry can be very routine work and even boring at times, but accuracy is of prime importance, so this type of work isn't for everybody. You may be entering numbers into a data base or address information. When doing data entry work at home, you can work your favorite hours. In this type of detail-oriented work, you will need to take frequent sanity breaks or the accuracy level quickly deteriorates.
Transcription
When you think of transcription jobs in connection with how to make money, they sound like an excellent opportunity. The first category that comes to mind is medical transcription. The money is good, but you will have to learn the medical terms so that you can transcribe without errors. These jobs are a little harder to find as freelance work. Another common transcription job found on freelance sites is transcribing interviews or conference calls. You are usually paid by the audio hour, of sometimes by the page of typed materials.
Writing
Freelance workers know how to make money in other ways. Look at the possibilities advertised on the job board for more information. Freelancers write directory articles, web page content, product descriptions, product reviews, website informational articles, blogs, and testimonials--all for hire. The advantage of such jobs is that you get a lot of variety in subject matter, although they lean heavily to wealth building, legal assistance, real estate and travel. The work requires that you be able to do research on the Internet, to express yourself in good English, and that you be able to stick with scheduled deadlines.
Forum Manager
Another way in which freelancers know how to make money on line is to become a forum manager. Large and busy website forums need a manager or managers to respond to questions by visitors, provide links to information, and mediate in arguments between forum guests, and remove obnoxious guests from the ability to participate. Part of the duties of the forum manager may be to take the part of other visitors to the forum so that it appears more busy and thus, more attractive to other web surfers.
